Wanna make your Airbnb decor look more basic than bougie?
So you’re an Airbnb host, and you want to be drowning in guest reservations. It’s time to think beyond the basics. You need to make your Airbnb decor outshine the other vacation rentals on the block. Don’t worry. I’ve got you. I decorated my own profitable Airbnb with no interior design background – in an ultra-saturated market. Here are 6 easy guidelines for you to follow.
#1 Highlight the Experience, Not Just the Space
How do you want guests to feel when they’re in your Airbnb? Is your Airbnb meant to be a tranquil oasis for relaxation or a vibrant place for fun and excitement? Does your Airbnb decor create the experience you want for your guests?
Think about the most unique selling point of your short-term rental and make sure to showcase it in your listing. Whether it’s the stunning view from the balcony, the cozy nook perfect for reading, or the convenient location just a stone’s throw away from the city’s best attractions – absolutely use decor to amplify any of these features.
Having even one “wow” feature will contribute to an unforgettable stay. For example, if your Airbnb boasts a breathtaking view, frame it with strategically placed seating and unobstructive decor that draws the eye outward. If your location is near local attractions, highlight this by incorporating maps or guides into your decor.
By thinking beyond the surface aesthetics and considering the overall experience, you can create a space that not only looks beautiful but also leaves a lasting impression on your guests. Remember that unforgettable stays lead to 5-star reviews, which lead to more bookings.
#2 Infuse Luxury into the Details
Airbnb hosting is now a super competitive industry, so you’ve got to pay attention to the smallest details. It’s often these small details that leave the biggest impression. They can make all the difference in creating a truly luxurious experience for your guests. Provide high-quality bedding and towels that not only look and feel luxurious but also provide a level of comfort that will make your guests feel pampered. Bonus – They don’t have to be expensive! There are affordable options that look and feel just as luxurious as more expensive brands.
Think about the little indulgences that can make your guests’ stay feel extra special, whether it’s a selection of gourmet teas and coffees, a soft bathrobe and slippers, or a welcome basket. These additions can be budget-friendly for you as an Airbnb host, while also adding a lot to the luxury experience. Pay attention to these small (but significant details) and you will have guests wanting to re-book your Airbnb in the future.
#3 Craft a Cozy Haven
The key to a great Airbnb is making guests feel relaxed and welcomed. You want to wrap them in comfort as soon as they walk through the door. Wanna know the easiest way to give your guests a warm, grand welcome? It’s with scent! A lot of Airbnb hosts haven’t honed in on this one feature, but it has been Disneyland’s scent tantalizing secret for years. Disneyland pumps the smell of popcorn, vanilla and peppermint to add to the guest experience, and it works. Now, I’m not suggesting that you need to invest in a fancy “Smellitzer” pump, but a scent plug in or a reed diffuser at the entry table will be a very nice touch.
In other areas of your Airbnb, elevate the cozy factor by adding soft textures like plush rugs and throws that invite guests to unwind and relax. If you have an winter season Airbnb, make sure that your fireplace is fully stocked with wood.
#4 Embrace Simplicity
I’ve said this before, but maximalism is the Airbnb host’s arch nemesis. (Ok, I’ll concede that if you’re an exceptional interior designer you might be able to pull it off, but this post is for the Airbnb host who doesn’t come from a professional background). It will be difficult for guests to relax if your Airbnb decor is cluttered with distractions. Minimal or simple decor is the way to go. Keep your space uncluttered, focusing on quality like a comfy, plush sofa. This not only creates a more peaceful environment for your guests but also makes your space easier to maintain. You’ll be especially thankful for low-maintenance decor if you also clean your own Airbnb.
#5 Bring Nature Indoors
Nature is relaxing, therapeutic, and always on trend. Designing with nature in mind will make your Airbnb decor timeless. Incorporating natural elements into your decor is particularly genius when your property is nestled in a natural setting. You can bring natural elements into your decor, such as plants or natural wood accents. If you don’t have a green thumb or are hosting remotely, try using faux plants.
Not only will this enhance the natural beauty of your space, but it will also bring a sense of zen to your Airbnb.
#6 Personalize with Purpose
Guests are your first priority as an Airbnb host, but your Airbnb is also a reflection of you, so let your personality shine through with some thoughtfully curated pieces. Find a balance between artwork and accessories that speak to your style and interests, while considering how it will enhance the guest experience. Whether it’s a local artwork that adds a sense of place or a unique piece that sparks curiosity, make sure every item has a purpose and adds value to the space.
Really though, Airbnb decor doesn’t have to be hard. Just keep these 6 tips in mind and you will be on your way to Airbnb hosting success.
